USFOIL LAUNCHES NEW WASZP DEVELOPMENT TRACKER

A New Tool Connecting Sailors, Coaches and the Growing Dinghy Foiling Pathway

The WASZP Dinghy Foiler is quickly becoming the go to standard for youth singlehanded development around the world.

International events are now attracting fleets approaching 300 boats, and the next WASZP Games at Lake Garda in late June 2027 is expected to bring together almost 400 sailors from around the world.

North America is building the infrastructure to keep pace.

The WASZP Class in the United States now offers a full calendar of racing across the continent, together with clinics, charter boats, private coaching and affordable Class owned and supported Race Teams for sailors who want to begin traveling and competing at a higher level. The Class expects its first privately operated Race Team to join the program in 2027 as that expansion continues.

The goal is not simply to create more regattas. It is to build a complete pathway that allows a sailor to enter the WASZP from almost anywhere and keep progressing. That approach has already become a central part of the Class strategy through local HUBs, Youth Development Teams, Race Teams, scholastic sailing and an increasingly connected national calendar. 

The proposed 2027 WASZP Calendar continues that approach with winter training, regional and national championships, international competition, coordinated transportation and charter opportunities designed to make moving through the season easier for sailors and families. 

Partners including America One Racing, SailSync.ai and SailFlow are adding another layer of support for competitive sailors as they learn to race, improve their performance and begin competing internationally. The America One Racing partnership brings high-performance coaching and athlete-development experience directly into the WASZP pathway, while the SailSync.ai partnership gives coaches and sailors access to modern GPS analysis and coaching tools.

BUILDING THE INFRASTRUCTURE

USFoil was created as a 501(c)(3) organization to support that growth.

Its role is to help provide the equipment, coach development, sailor certification and support needed to build a strong and accessible Dinghy Foiling infrastructure in the United States.

The objective is simple: sailors from every gender, geography and income level should have access to good equipment, structured coaching and a clear path forward.

The WASZP Dinghy Foiler represents an important part of the future of singlehanded sailing, and USFoil wants American sailors to have the infrastructure needed to compete with the best programs in the world.

That means more than putting boats at Clubs.

It means creating places to sail, developing coaches, using a common development framework, helping sailors understand what comes next and connecting local training to national and international competition.

INTRODUCING THE USFOIL TRACKER

This week USFoil is adding another major piece to that system with the launch of the new USFoil Tracker at: tracker.usfoil.org

The Tracker was created to give sailors and coaches one shared pathway for development, sailor certification and coach endorsement.

Instead of skills, fitness, time on the water, race results and coaching feedback living in different notebooks, spreadsheets and conversations, each sailor now has a development record that can follow them through the WASZP pathway.

A sailor can begin at a local HUB, attend a USFoil clinic somewhere else, work with different coaches, join a Race Team and eventually compete internationally without starting over every time they move to a new program.

A CLEAR SAILOR PATHWAY

When sailors log in, they immediately see where they stand.

Days on the water, hours sailed, weekly fitness progress, certification progress and training consistency are all visible from one dashboard. Sailors can work through the individual skills and track their own development, but formal sailor certification requires sign-off by a coach who meets the current USFoil endorsement and US Sailing certification requirements.

At the center of the system is the Dinghy Foiling skills logbook.

The sailor certification pathway moves through Level 1 (Novice), Level 2 (Intermediate) and Level 3 (Advanced). Sailors can work through the individual skills and track their own development, but formal certification requires coach verification. The system separately records athlete progress and coach approval so everyone knows exactly where the sailor stands.

The Tracker does not replace coaching.

It makes the coaching more useful by giving the sailor and coach the same standards, the same history and the same next steps.

THE COACHES HAVE A PATHWAY TOO

The same accountability applies to the people doing the coaching.

USFoil coach development is also managed through the platform, with progression through Dinghy Foiling Coach Endorsement Level 1, Level 2, Advanced Coach and Subject Matter Expert. Head Coach is tracked separately as a leadership designation rather than another step in the progression.

Coaches cannot approve their own endorsement, and an active US Sailing instructor or coach certification is required alongside the USFoil pathway. Because US Sailing requires current SafeSport and First Aid/CPR for its certifications to remain valid, Tracker uses the coach’s current US Sailing certification as the outside credential requirement. A coach whose US Sailing certification or USFoil endorsement is no longer active can still access the system, but cannot formally sign off sailor certifications until both are current.

That creates a simple, transparent chain of accountability: sailor certifications are signed off by coaches with current USFoil endorsements and active US Sailing certifications, while Tracker records the status of both.

TRAINING BEYOND THE WATER

Fitness is also built directly into the sailor experience.

Every sailor has an age-based weekly training framework built around five areas: Strength, Engine, Race Conditioning, Movement and Mobility.

The emphasis is on consistency, not creating another ranking system.

Sailors can use USFoil training templates and an exercise library, record their own training or import activity files from Vakaros, Garmin, Strava and other devices. An optional 90-day fitness benchmark lets sailors measure their own progress over time rather than against other athletes.

Time on the water is tracked in the same place, making one of the most important parts of development easy to see: how often are you actually sailing?

ONE PATHWAY, A LOT OF WAYS IN

The strength of the system is that there is no single required entry point.

A sailor might first try a WASZP at a local HUB. Another might come through an Opti program, High School or College sailing, a USFoil clinic or a Youth Development Team.

From there, sailors can move into local racing, Class events, private coaching and the North American Race Team pathway. The Class is also building charter access, coaching support and transportation around major events so families do not have to create an entire private campaign simply to participate.

The Youth Development and Race Team structure is designed to connect those stages rather than treat them as separate programs.

The Tracker now gives all of those programs a common development record.

Whether a sailor is learning at a HUB, attending a clinic, representing their school, joining a Race Team or preparing to race internationally, the sailor and their coaches can work from the same history and the same standards.

CONNECTED TO THE CLASS

The Tracker also keeps sailors connected to the larger WASZP community.

Sailors can see activity within their HUB, follow current FOILFAST Class news and see North American Triple Crown standings from WASZP RaceHub directly inside the platform.

The idea is to connect the entire journey.

Learn to foil. Train. Earn your sailor certification. Race locally. Travel. Join a team. Compete internationally.

As the WASZP Class continues to grow, the infrastructure around the sailors has to grow with it.

The new USFoil Tracker is another step toward making that pathway easier to see, easier to access and easier to follow.
