US WASZP Class Announces Severn Sailing Association as Official HUB for the 2026 Season

US WASZP CLASS ANNOUNCES SEVERN SAILING ASSOCIATION AS AN OFFICIAL HUB FOR THE 2026 SEASON

 

Annapolis, Maryland (February 2nd. 2026)

The US WASZP Class is proud to announce the Severn Sailing Association as an official WASZP HUB for the 2026 season. Located on the Chesapeake Bay in the heart of Annapolis, SSA will serve as a regional anchor for WASZP training, racing, and youth development, providing consistent access to dinghy foiling within one of the strongest sailing communities in the United States.

Why the HUB Model Matters

As the WASZP class continues to grow across North America, long term success depends on more than standalone regattas or isolated clinics. The HUB model is designed to provide sailors with a reliable home base where training, racing, coaching, and community development come together in a structured and repeatable way. By concentrating activity at proven venues, the Class is able to raise the quality of sailing, reduce barriers to entry, and create clear development pathways for sailors of all ages.

HUBs are intended to support first time foilers learning the basics, high school and college sailors transitioning into high performance boats, and experienced racers preparing for regional, national, and international competition. Most importantly, they create consistency. Sailors train on the same waters where they race, work with familiar coaches and peers, and build confidence through repetition rather than one off opportunities.

The club’s leadership recognized early that dinghy foiling represents the future of the sport and committed to building a program that supports sailors not just for a weekend, but across an entire season.

By embracing the HUB framework, SSA is not simply hosting WASZP activity. It is investing in a sustainable foiling ecosystem that supports youth sailors, integrates high school competition, and connects local training directly to meaningful racing outcomes.

Training That Leads Directly to Racing Performance

A defining feature of the SSA WASZP HUB is the intentional link between weekly training and regatta success. Sunday clinics are structured around race starts, boat handling under pressure, fleet awareness, and decision making at speed. Open high performance race starts are integrated into training days so sailors are regularly practicing in true race scenarios. This approach ensures that skills developed during clinics transfer directly into stronger regatta performance and allows sailors to measure progress in real time against their peers.

For sailors seeking deeper development, private Saturday coaching with charter boats will be available in conjunction with most Sunday sessions, offering tailored instruction and additional time on the water.

 

2026 SSA WASZP HUB Training and Clinics

Throughout the spring and fall of 2026, SSA will host a consistent schedule of Sunday WASZP training days. 

Spring Series (April 5, April 12, April 19, May 10, May 17, May 24,  May 31, June 7 and June 14)

Fall Series (September 6, September 13, September 20, September 27, October 4, October 18, October 25, November 1 and November 8)

Each training day will feature full day WASZP clinics from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM with charter boats available, alongside open high performance race starts from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM for WASZPs and other compatible high performance boats.

High School Competition as a Cornerstone

High school sailing is a central pillar of the SSA WASZP HUB. On June 7, 2026, SSA will host a local High School WASZP Championship, giving area sailors the opportunity to compete for their schools in a dedicated championship format. This event is designed to foster school based rivalries, introduce foiling within a team environment, and give student athletes a platform to represent their programs while racing one of the most exciting boats in modern sailing. For many sailors, this championship will serve as a bridge between traditional high school sailing and the broader high performance racing pathway.

2026 SSA WASZP Regattas

In addition to weekly training, SSA will host a full slate of WASZP regattas that anchor the HUB calendar. These include the US Region 4 High School & College Qualifier on April 25 and 26, the Helly Hansen Regatta from May 1 through May 3, the Spring Series Regatta on June 20 and 21, a Labor Day Camp from September 5 through September 7, the Fall Series Regatta on October 10 and 11, and the Fall Brawl Regatta on November 14 and 15. 

Together, these events create a clear rhythm between preparation and competition and allow sailors to progress from local training into regional and national level racing without leaving their home venue.

By combining consistent training, meaningful high school competition, and a strong regatta calendar, SSA sets a powerful example of how dinghy foiling can thrive at the local level while feeding directly into the national WASZP pathway.
