POINT LOMA HIGH SCHOOL TEAM TAKES FLIGHT AT CORONADO YACHT CLUB
Right on the heels of the announcement of the WASZP Class High School and College Nationals for 2026, the legendary Point Loma High School Sailing Team wasted no time jumping on the foiling revolution. Led by longtime coach and Multiple Class World Champion Steve Hunt, the reigning powerhouse of U.S. High School sailing teamed up with Coronado Yacht Club to host an exclusive WASZP Foiling Camp, September 18–22, 2025.

Determined to add another title to their storied legacy, Hunt brought in Gavin Ball — one of America’s top WASZP sailors and fresh off a 4th place finish at the 2025 International WASZP Games, which drew a record 250 sailors from around the world. Ball, who has been dominating the North American circuit throughout the season, shared his expertise in rig tuning, foiling techniques, and race strategy while mentoring the next generation of high-speed sailors.
“As soon as we heard about the WASZP High School Nationals, we knew Point Loma had to get involved,” said Hunt. “Foiling is the future, and with the WASZP we can give our sailors the next level of challenge and excitement.”

Over four days of perfect San Diego conditions, the Point Loma sailors took flight — learning everything from setup and maintenance to foil control, maneuvering, and recovery drills. The group included some of the top youth sailors in the country, including U.S. Youth National Champion and 2025 World Sailing Youth Representative Kevin Cason, Holland Vierling as well as runnerups and close rivals Brendan Ozarski, and Brett Simpson, all of whom impressed with quick progression and enthusiasm.
“The level of focus and drive from these sailors was incredible,” said Ball. “They’re the next wave, and it’s awesome to see a team like Point Loma embracing foiling with such energy.”
The camp marks another milestone in the rapid growth of the WASZP Class in Southern California, with more clubs joining the movement every month. Next up on the calendar is the Magenta Foiling Camp in San Pedro, California, running November 29–30, dedicated to empowering young women in foiling.

With momentum building and swarms expanding across the continent, the flight path to the 2026 WASZP Games in Pensacola is officially underway.
