HALIFAX HOSTS ANOTHER SPECTACULAR CANFOIL WEEK
SHOWCASING THE HEART OF CANADIAN FOILING
For the fourth consecutive year, Halifax once again cemented its reputation as Canada’s foiling capital, hosting another incredible edition of CANFOIL Week, capped off by the 2025 Canadian National Championship.
The week-long celebration brought together over a dozen WASZP sailors for an intensive mix of training, racing, and development ahead of both the Canadian Nationals and the World Sprint Championship selection.
Under the guidance of Coach Agustin Ferrario, sailors were treated to a complete foiling experience, from light-air toe-foiling sessions in the calm morning breeze to high-speed afternoon runs as the thermal filled in. Some participants even branched out into Olympic-style foiling, testing iQFOiLs and Nacra 17s as potential pathways for future performance sailing.
Adding depth to the coaching roster, Jackson Macaulay, former North American and Canadian WASZP Champion, joined the camp to mentor new foilers, helping them refine their flight control and tactical confidence as they look toward the 2026 WASZP Games in Pensacola.

Meanwhile, the A1R Camp was running simultaneously in the southern United States, fueling a friendly North American rivalry that continues to elevate the standard of competition internationally. That same competitive spirit carried into the 2025 International WASZP Games, where Canada’s Andrew Chisholm claimed the U19 World Championship title, while on the A1R side, standout performances came from Gavin Ball and Pearl Lattanzi — the latter securing both the 2025 Women’s World Sprint and Women’s Games Titles. Each of these sailors used the experience as an important stepping stone in their preparation for the 2026 WASZP Games.
“I’ve heard so much about the CANFOIL Week session and had to come and experience it for the first time,” said one visiting sailor from the west coast. “What I can tell you is it did not disappoint. With so many foiling options, great coaching, and mentorship, it’s definitely a can’t-miss event every fall.”
The highlight of the week came with a special visit from SailGP Canada flight controller Billy Gooderham, a founding member of the SailGP North Star Team. Gooderham shared behind-the-scenes insights from professional foiling at the highest level and when he’s home, he’s often spotted flying his own WASZP on local waters to keep his instincts sharp.

From light-air practice sessions to national championship racing, CANFOIL Week 2025 once again proved why Halifax has become the epicenter of Canada’s foiling movement. The energy, talent, and collaboration on display reflect a growing force within the international WASZP community and with Pensacola 2026 on the horizon, the momentum shows no sign of slowing down.
