A1R Camp In Pensacola

A1R HOSTS RECORD BREAKING CAMP IN PENSACOLA

The October A1R Foiling Camp in Pensacola, the future home of the 2026 WASZP Games, wrapped up its biggest edition yet, and the energy on the Gulf Coast could be felt throughout the boat park. Seventeen WASZPs lined up on the beach, marking the largest turnout in the camp’s history and a testament to the sport’s growing momentum across North America.

Among the fleet were familiar names and rising stars. Women’s World Champion Pearl Lattanzi returned to share her trademark focus and finesse, while Gavin Ball, a staple of the A1R program and one of North America’s top foilers, continued to set the standard for dedication and speed. The roster stretched from coast to coast: Hoel Menard representing the West, a strong Hawaiian contingent led by Ball, and a collection of ambitious East Coasters eager to build upon their UK experience and familiarize local knowledge in Pensacola.

At the helm of the camp was Leandro Spina, who once again curated an all-star coaching lineup featuring both coaches from the 2025 UK WASZP Games, Olympic legend Anna Tunnicilffe Tobias and technical guru Ravi Parent who were supported by Ben Rosenberg running advanced analytics. Together, they blended Olympic insight, technical foiling expertise, and a healthy dose of competitive grit to create a truly elite environment.

Over five days, sailors faced the full spectrum of conditions with early morning sessions and afternoon tuning, maximizing every minute together and building the A1R team spirit . It underscores the grit and adaptability that define this generation of foilers in the backyard of the American Magic Organization.

Local Pensacola sailing advocate Tom Pace, who is also a driving force behind the upcoming WASZP Games, captured the mood perfectly:

This has always been an amazing camp. Leandro and his team have raised the bar again. With Pensacola Yacht Club hosting the 2026 WASZP Games, the excitement is building—not just to welcome the world of foiling here, but to see one of our own U.S. foilers defend the Women's Crown and take the Overall crown as well.”

As the A1R camp wrapped, one thing was clear, Pensacola isn’t just preparing to host a world championship. It’s already home to the future of American foiling.

The next A1R Camp is scheduled for November 22-25, 2026… America wants the title!!
