2026 WASZP Race Teams Application Opens

Applications Now Open for the 2026 WASZP Race Teams

A New Era of North American Foiling Pathways Begins

The North American WASZP Class has officially opened applications for the 2026 WASZP Race Teams, launching the most comprehensive foiling development system ever assembled in North America.

Applications are now live at www.waszpraceteam.com, and the 2026 season marks the first year of a fully integrated model in which WeCANFoil and USFoil jointly own and manage the Race Teams, while the North American Class sets the rules, establishes the team standards, selects the coaching leadership, and oversees the broader competitive pathway for all sailors.  USFoil is a new entity that plans to launch after the 2026 WASZP Games in Pensacola with a broad range of support for American sailors.  Stay tuned for exciting updates.  Organization of the teams in late 2025 and early 2026 will be in partnership with WeCANFoil.

“This is a huge step forward for foiling in North America,” said Tyler Bjorn, North American Class Manager. “We now have a coordinated system where the Class provides structure and accountability, and USFoil and WeCANFoil deliver the coaching, training, and operational horsepower needed to help sailors progress at every level.”

A Pathway for Every Stage of the Foiling Journey

The 2026 program is organized into three interconnected components, all aligned under Class-defined standards and powered by USFoil and WeCANFoil’s coaching and operational systems.

Youth Development Teams

Where new and emerging foilers (starting around age 12) are introduced to structured foiling skills, local hubs, regional camps, and early national opportunities. These teams focus on core skill development, building confidence, and getting sailors comfortable flying consistently.

North American Race Team

A high-performance team with no age restrictions, built for sailors ready to train, travel, and compete at the major WASZP events across North America. These sailors work with assigned coaches, follow a national training plan, and take on larger regattas and multi-day training blocks.

Podium Team

A small group of top-performing athletes selected for advanced training, enhanced data analysis, and targeted preparation for the continent’s biggest WASZP regattas and international-level events.

Across all three tiers, the Class emphasizes that each team will have its own tailored schedule, reflecting the unique development needs of its sailors.

“We’re not trying to force every sailor into the same mold,” said Agustin Ferrario, WeCANFoil Program Director. “Youth development needs one structure, race teams need another, and podium-focused athletes need something even more specific. What matters is that every step is clear, connected, and focused on long-term improvement.”

Training Blocks, Major Regattas, and Regional Integration

While school, work, and other commitments naturally shape each sailor’s availability, the programs are built around core training blocks—the camps, clinics, and summer intensives that drive the greatest improvement in foiling skills.

“We encourage sailors to attend everything they can,” Bjorn said, “but we also understand real life. What matters most is showing up for the major training blocks, because that’s where the fastest gains happen.”

A snapshot of expected major events appears on the site, though Class leaders stressed that the list is not exhaustive.

Final, fully detailed calendars will be released at the end of the year.

Powered by Hubs, Coaching Systems, and Innovation

The 2026 Race Teams sit atop a rapidly growing network of regional foiling hubs—locations where USFoil and WeCANFoil maintain loaner boats, coach-training programs, standardized equipment, and year-round foiling activity.

These hubs allow sailors to train at home, not just during major events.

“The biggest value we can offer sailors is continuity,” Ferrario said. “A sailor should be able to fly with the Race Teams at a big event, then go home to Seattle, San Pedro, Annapolis or Montréal and keep training in an environment that understands the pathway.”

The teams will continue using unified coaching systems and standardized technology, providing consistent data collection, shared debriefs, and objective performance tracking that allows sailors to accelerate their learning curve.

A Growing Continental Movement

The WASZP continues to be the fastest-growing high-performance class in North America, with an unmatched combination of affordability, durability, and pure one-design racing. With major events like the 2026 WASZP Games in Pensacola on the horizon, this year’s Race Team launch arrives at a moment of tremendous momentum.

“This isn’t just about building teams,” Bjorn said. “It’s about building a community of foilers who train together, travel together, push each other, and raise the level of North American foiling.”

How to Apply

Applications for the 2026 Race Teams are now open at:

www.waszpraceteam.com

Sailors of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to apply—from new youth foilers entering the pathway for the first time to adults seeking structured high-performance training.

Early submission is recommended. Team selections, onboarding, and final calendar releases will take place in December.

“This pathway is built for everyone,” Ferrario said. “If you want to get better at foiling—and you want to be part of a system that supports you at every step—now is the time to join.”
