SAILGP GOLDEN TICKETS ON THE LINE AS GLOBAL FOILING TALENT BATTLE IN HIGH-SPEED SHOWDOWN

Weymouth, UK — The 2025 International Women’s Sprint Championship lit up Weymouth today with a groundbreaking debut for elite female foiling in the WASZP class. Featuring 26 of the world’s top women foilers, the high-intensity ten-race series opened with five exhilarating heats on a SailGP-style T-course. Leading the charge is Norway’s Pia Henriette Brun Tevita, who holds a narrow edge over Hawaiian-American veteran “The Pearl” Lattanzi, fresh off two dominant bullets and sitting second overall with 21 points. Australia’s Mia Ferguson and  2 more Norwegians Maria Butler Wang and Pemille Baann Eftang all remain within striking distance, making this a five-way battle heading into the final day.

At the heart of the drama: two golden tickets to the 2026 SailGP Inspire Grand Final, where the top ten WASZP women worldwide will race for $10,000 USD and international bragging rights. This event throws tradition out the window, embracing reaching starts, rapid transitions, and tight slalom marks to mirror the adrenaline-fueled format of SailGP and demanding nothing less than perfection from each sailor.

“Everything happens in a flash,” said Lattanzi. “The start is make-or-break, and the slalom keeps you honest. This is the future of foiling, and it’s wicked fun.”

With five more races to go and fresh breeze in the forecast, the stage is set for a barnburner finish. The championship and the coveted tickets are still wide open.

Day Two Recap – Women’s Sprint Championship: Pearl and Mina Soar to SailGP Grand Finale Qualification

The final day of the WASZP Women’s Sprint Championship, a SailGP-inspired showdown featuring the world’s top female foilers, delivered a thrilling conclusion in Weymouth, UK, as fresh conditions and a new slalom course set the stage for a dramatic five-race finale. With over 15 knots of breeze sweeping across the bay, it was the Pacific that rose to the top, claiming both golden tickets to the 2026 SailGP Grand Finale in Australia.

Pearl Latanzi of Hawaii, USA, was untouchable. Calm, collected, and laser-focused, Pearl put on a masterclass in high-speed slalom foiling, winning four of the day’s five races and discarding a third-place finish as her worst result. She clinched the championship with a commanding 10-point margin over Mina Ferguson of Australia, who was equally dominant across the fleet and never finished outside the top three. Together, these two rising stars gapped the rest of the field by over 30 points, an emphatic statement of where the women’s foiling game is headed.

Behind them, it was Team Norway that quietly made a powerful impact, locking down positions three through six and showing the sailing world that their national depth is no fluke. With the WASZP Games beginning tomorrow, the Norwegians look primed and ready to challenge for the overall title.

But today belonged to Pearl. Her calm under pressure, silky transitions through the slalom gates, and raw foiling speed were the culmination of tireless hours on the water, strategic preparation, and an unwavering belief in herself. It’s exactly what this new era of women’s foiling represents: dedication, precision, and breakthrough performance on the global stage.

Just like we’ve seen in tennis, football, and surfing, women in foiling are rising fast, getting noticed, and earning the spotlight they deserve. This Sprint Championship proved that the skill ceiling continues to rise and that this fleet of athletes is setting a new benchmark for what’s possible on a WASZP.

As the champagne sprayed and cameras flashed, Pearl and Mina stood proud, ticket in hand, eyes now set on Australia’s Grand Finale and the week of WASZP Games racing still to come. These women have shown they’re not just in the game, they’re redefining it.

The WASZP Games Opening Ceremony kicks off this afternoon, celebrating this record-breaking gathering of over 250 foilers from around the globe. Awards for both the Pre-Games Regatta and the Women’s Sprint Championship will be presented as the foiling world turns its eyes to the biggest week in WASZP history.

One thing’s for sure: This is not a moment. It’s a movement.

About KA Sail (Manufacturer)
The WASZP was designed by Andrew “Amac” McDougall, a pioneering Australian sailor and naval architect with decades of experience in high-performance foiling. Frustrated by the high cost and complexity of foiling boats at the time, McDougall set out to design a single-handed, one-design foiler that would be fun, accessible, and built to last. The WASZP launched in 2016 to global acclaim, winning the Sailing World Boat of the Year and quickly establishing itself as the world’s leading entry-level foiling platform. With a growing international class, professional manufacturing, and strict one-design controls, KA Sail continues to manage and support WASZP production and global distribution from its headquarters in Melbourne, Australia.
