Chisholm Dominates 2025 WASZP Atlantic Coast Championships

TOMS RIVER, NJ – The 2025 WASZP Atlantic Coast Championships delivered another
unforgettable edition from June 6–8, hosted once again by the Toms River Yacht Club,
marking an eighth consecutive year of partnership between the club and the WASZP Class.

The weekend began with classic New Jersey foiling conditions—a building breeze on Friday allowed five full races to be completed. Canadian standout Andrew Chisholm (Belleville, ON) wasted no time in stamping his authority on the fleet, posting an impressive 1-1-2-1-2 score line to take a commanding early lead and send a message to the rest of the fleet.

Ethan Thompson (NS) had a rough start, finishing 13th in the opening race, but rebounded quickly with a powerful 2-1 finish to close Day 1, igniting his charge for the podium. Veteran Sam Blouin (CT) remained quietly consistent with a 4-7-1-3-3, keeping him within striking distance heading into the final day.

Owen Hennessey, returning to the class after a collegiate hiatus, had a strong showing early with 3-2-3-6 finishes, though an unfortunate retirement in Race 5 temporarily derailed his charge.

Annie Sitzmann, the top female competitor of the event, made her mark with a second-place finish in Race 1, then continued to post solid top-ten scores throughout the regatta, leading the women’s division from start to finish.

Saturday brought a pause to racing as light winds forced a lay day. Sailors shifted their focus to tuning, repairs, and some well-earned fun off the water with a spirited go-kart outing.

On Sunday, Chisholm returned to form and never looked back, never finishing worse than
second, ultimately winning five of ten races and claiming the 2025 ACC title in dominant
fashion. Thompson came out firing, scoring 1-2-3-1-1 to seal his silver medal performance with 3 race wins and hold off any attack from Blouin. Sitzmann kept her composure through Sunday’s breezy conditions, locking in a string of top-seven finishes to secure top female honors in a competitive fleet of 15 sailors from both the U.S. and Canada.

This year’s regatta also marked the first use of Vakaros RaceSense at the WASZP ACC,
providing cutting-edge technology for race management and data collection for sailors.

With the ACCs in the books, the WASZP fleet now turns its attention to the U.S. Singlehanded Championships, hosted at Tabor Academy in Marion, MA, June 20–22. This landmark event will be the first-ever US Sailing Championship to feature the WASZP, as North America’s top foilers sharpen their skills in preparation for the 2025 WASZP Games, already boasting over 260 registered sailors, to be held in Weymouth, UK this July.
